A launch monitor is essentially a high-speed measuring system that watches the club enter impact, watches the ball leave, and translates both into numbers. Some use Doppler radar (TrackMan, FlightScope). Some use cameras (Foresight, Uneekor). Both are accurate enough to coach from.
What it Measures
- Ball speed — how hard you hit it
- Launch angle — how high it leaves the face
- Spin rate — how much backspin or sidespin
- Carry distance and total distance
- Club path — direction the club is moving at impact
- Face angle and face-to-path — what the clubface is doing
- Angle of attack — hitting up or down on the ball
