Adjusting Your Setup & Swing for Slope & Lie Variability

When golfers take their improved swings from the bay to the course, one challenge quickly emerges: no two lies are ever the same. Uneven terrain demands real-time swing adjustments.

Understanding the Biomechanics of Sloped Lies

Ground slope alters kinetic chain sequencing. Pelvic tilt and hip abduction shift dramatically on inclines and declines, impacting balance and rotational forces.

On an uphill lie, align shoulders parallel to the slope, increase club selection by one, and focus on a full follow-through. On a downhill lie, maintain forward weight, use less loft, and expect a lower trajectory with more roll.

For ball above feet, stand taller, grip down, and aim slightly right. For ball below feet, widen your stance, increase knee flex, and aim slightly left.
